The Minister of Internal Affairs Gen Jeje Odongo has been tasked by a section of members of parliament to explain what they called irregular and corrupt dealings of the National Identification and Registration Authority who have made it a tendency to bar Ugandan nationals with Rwandan names from registering for National Identity Cards.
This as the minister was appearing before Defense and internal Affairs committee chaired by Bunyole East Mp Moses Nagwomu Masaba
Nyabushozi County MP Fred Mwesigye and Mityana Municipality as well as Ruhinda County Donozio Kahonda as pressed the minister to explain why NIRA has stopped registering people perceived to be of Rwandan origin.
MPS stated that Some of the officials at NIRA go as far as requesting for illegal payment to process the registration.
Jeje , in his respond said that the government is at cross roads since some local leaders are compromised, given that their ancestral back ground traced to Rwanda.
He cited Kyangwali in Hoima district where the LC 3 Chairman is Rwanda as one of those escalating the intrusion by Rwandans.
Jeje told the committee that he will investigate the matter and give response on Thursday (tomorrow).
