Jailed Senior Police Officer Joel Aguma runs to High Court for bail
Jailed Senior Police Officer Joel Aguma has petitioned the High Court criminal division over a decision of the General Court Martial to deny him bail.
Aguma spent Christmas behind bars at Makindye Millitary Police Barracks on charges of kidnapping 2 Rwandan nationals.
This is after the General Court Martial refused to release him on bail, on grounds that as a senior police officer he had the capacity to interfere with on going investigations.
Aguma has now filed a fresh bail application before the High Court on grounds that the charges against him are bailable, and that he has substantial sureties, a permanent place of residence.
Aguma was in October Last year charged alongside 8 other security personnel, including the former commandant of the Special Operations Unit Nixon Agasirwe, with the Kidnap of 2 Rwandan nationals, whom they are alleged to have forcefully repatriated to Rwanda.
