Police has summoned Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi, better known as Bobi Wine to answer tentative charges of assault, illegal assembly and theft of Police handcuffs.

The summons were made through a letter addressed to the speaker of Parliament Rebeçca Alitwala Kadaga, delivered on 13th July 2018.

The summons follow protests over the introduction of a 200 shillings daily tax on Over the Top Internet Services (OTT) commonly referred to as Social Media tax and the 1% tax on Mobile Money transactions. MP Kyagulanyi was at the front line of the demonstration and managed to thwart attempts to arrest him, leading police on a wild goose chase downtown Kampala where he escaped on a boda boda.

It is alleged that during the protest, the Divisional Police Commander (DPC) CPS Kampala, Joseph Bakaleke was assaulted and his handcuffs stolen.

The Police letter signed by the officer in-charge Criminal Investigations Kampala Central Police station (CPS), Joshua Tusingwire requires Kagulanyi to appear at CPS on Wednesday 18th July, 2018 at 9:00am.
