STELLA NYANZI SUFFERS MISCARRIAGE IN LUZIRA PRISON
Makerere University Researcher Dr. Stellah Nyanzi, has told a High Court judge that she suffered a miscarriage at Luzira prison on Friday last week, due to High blood pressure.
This as Nyanzi today appeared before Justice Lydia Mugambe for the hearing of a case she filed against Makerere University for refusing to reinstate her.
Nyanzi who cut off her trademark dreadlocked hair appeared to be in frail condition today.
She explained to the judge that she was admitted to the prison's sick bay and that is why she could not get in touch with her lawyer Isaac Ssemakadde to swear a supporting affidavit in her case.
Ssemakadde then asked the judge to adjourn the case to the 19th February 2019 for hearing.
Nyanzi has been on remand at Luzira prison since November last year on charges of cyber harassment and offensive communication against the person of President Yoweri Museveni and his late mother Esteri Kokundeka.
In October last year Makerere University appeal tribunal directed that Nyanzi be reinstated, is paid all her salary arrears and be promoted to the level of Fellow Researcher with immediate effect, after lifting her suspension.
However the University has not implemented the directive and insists that Nyanzi's contract expired and she did not make any effort to renew it even after she learnt that she had been transferred to the School of Law.
Nyanzi sued Makerere University arguing that she has suffered serious economic set back, since she has a family to fend for.
